Awesome advice and bold questions. It's a pity that many people are just shy to ask them.
Here is a friend of mine's blog post <a href="http://cfagbata.com/are-famous-entrepreneurs-born-or-made/" title="Are Enterpreneurs Born Or Made?" rel="nofollow">"Are Enterpreneurs Born Or Made?"</a>.

I think it might also be helpful.

Yeah, that would have been a good question too. Most mutual funds pay IAs trailer fees for keeping clients investments in their funds. These trailer fees can add up; some are even 1% of the total investment. This money all comes as a deduction from the clients overall return via a Management Expense Ratio (MER).

If you have over $10,000 stay away from mutual funds. These days, even if you only have $100 you should just use an ETF which is basically a glorified mutual fund with a lower MER.

See http://investingincanada.info/2009/09/etfs-are-glorified-mutual-funds.html for why

I would had: How do you get paid?
it is interesting to know if your advisor is getting more incentive on specify products (i.e. mutual funds vs etf's for example).
